Israeli troops are pushing into the city of Gaza, where Hamas militants are hiding underground in a network of tunnels.

Israel Defense Forces have indicated its mission is to dismantle the network of tunnels.

“You can only get one person down the tunnel at a time – it really psychologically can lead soldiers to feel claustrophobic, worst-case scenario, you can get vertigo and lose sense of direction,” West Point Modern War Institute retired Major John Spencer said.

The IDF has specialised units that train to fight in the tunnels using robots and other special weapons.

GPS and night vision don’t work underground.
